PCW is honoured to announce the appointment of its founding member and CEO Rodney Grant to the Civil Society Advisory Group of the UN Women Multi-Country Office – Caribbean.
In offering the appointment Representative Christine Arab acknowledged that the group “is composed of women and men with distinguished records and careers in civil society in advocating for women’s rights and gender equality” she also explained that “UN Women has high expectations of strong feedback and guidance coming from the Advisory Group”.
The broad goal of the group is to “facilitate effective, ongoing and structured consultation between civil society and UN Women”.
The Civil Society Advisory Group is an arm of UN Women, the United Nations organisation dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. More specifically the group has a mandate to:
- Provide strategic advice to UN Women MCO-Caribbean on its thematic priorities and policies, including during the strategic planning process.
- Provide intelligence and guidance on political, economic, social and cultural developments that should inform UN Women programming and UN Women’s support of the regional and international inter-governmental and normative processes impacting the Caribbean;
- Assist UN Women MCO-Caribbean in strengthening its engagement with civil society at all levels.
The United Nations General Assembly created UN Women in July of 2010, since then it has touched the lives of thousands of women through interventions and initiatives that focus on leadership and political participation, ending violence against women, economic empowerment and the work of the Caribbean Coalition on Women, Girls and AIDS.
In accepting the post Mr. Grant said, “I am indeed happy to be able to contribute to the mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, aunts, grandmothers of this region, and to advance their efforts for equality, justice, fairness and inclusion in all spheres of development. Equally I look forward to advancing men’s issues alongside that of women”
The appointment takes effect in January 2016 and Mr. Grant will serve for one year.
The Pinelands family offer him our heartfelt congratulations with the confidence that he will prove himself to be a passionate and effective advisor.
