First attending Willkie Cumberbatch Primary School, Shelly Durant later attended Springer Memorial for her Secondary education. Post Secondary she passed a Level 1 Certified General Accountants (CGA) training and achieved a Diploma in Financial Management at BIMAP Institute. Out of 7 courses, Shelly attained a Pass of Distinction for 5 courses. Her first job after graduating was with Project Whole in 1994, where she had computer and administrative training to further develop her skills.

Shelly later refined her skills in dance, with training with Mr. Rodney Grant and Mrs. Jaimine Persaud-Pigot in choreography during the late 1990’s to the early 2000’s. As her training concluded, she received further hands-on experience as a dance teacher in 1994-1995. Shelly also participated in Pinelands- sponsored programs like development, communication, self-awareness, etiquette and confidence programs. To further refine her skills as a dance teacher, she attended NCH Action for Children in 1996 to the early 2000’s, where Shelly learned to work with children like understanding moods and mentality. During this time, Miss Durant has also taught dance at Parkinson School. Later on, Shelly has been a judge for the National Festival of Creative Arts in 2001; from 2013 to present date, she has also been a judge for the Community Independence Dance Competition. For 15 years, Shelly Durant has been the Chief Choreographer for Pinelands Creative Workshop Junior Company, teaching in numerous communities like Silver Hill and St. Phillip, as well as teaching dance in national summer camps across the island. As Shelly teaches advanced kids from the ages of 9 to 13, she has taught in Willkie Cumberbatch School creating pieces for graduation ceremonies. On top of her dancing abilities, Miss Durant is a drummer, dramatist and sings in the folk choir for Pinelands.

Beyond her dancing and dramatist contributions, Shelly Durant is the Financial Executive Officer of Pinelands and is responsible for managing all accounts through Quickbooks Accounting Program, maintain accounts receives and accounts payables, preparing bank reconciliations/VAT returns/NIS/income tax as well as preparing and making bank deposits.

She is also in charge of managing the Bicycle Project (stock taking, purchases, sales, liaison with outside partners), including the management of all grant income funds.
